Who we are
Our Vision
To be a people of hope in the hills
Our Mission
Hope in the Hills Christian Church is called to bring hope to the hills community by sharing the good news of Jesus through word and action and growing as disciples who also help disciple others.
Our Values
BEING REAL
We value a lifestyle of real Christianity that recognises we are all trophies of God’s grace. With this comes the grace of acceptance, the joy of encouragement and the desire to grow. (2 Corinthians 1:12)
JOY
We want to walk in freedom and fulfil God’s calling to the best of our ability and to his glory by serving with joy. Our calling is to "glorify God and enjoy him forever" (Westminster Shorter Catechism).
GROWTH
We believe that growth is part of the journey of faith, and we are open to the changes it brings. The gospel never changes, but how we do church and our effectiveness in sharing the gospel should be regularly examined (Ephesians 4:13, 15-16)
CONNECTION
Living out God’s grace, we seek to intentionally connect with people and point them to Jesus. We want to be a people who love and serve each other and the world around us.
PRAYER
We value a faith grounded in prayerful dependence on God and a sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit (John 15:5). Prayer stands at the heart of our discipleship to Jesus, shaping both our personal lives and our life together as a church. We are committed to praying for the church, its leaders, and its mission, continually submitting ourselves to God’s guidance and seeking His blessing in all that we do. (Ephesians 6:18; Colossians 4:2)
ACCEPTANCE
We welcome people in their uniqueness. We want all to see and experience Jesus and learn how to walk with him.
our history

Hope in the Hills began in 1955, as a group of committed Dutch migrants sought to see a new church form at the foot of the Dandenongs, wanting to see the influence of Christianity grow in this state. What began as the Reformed Church of Ferntree Gully soon became the Reformed Church of Tecoma, as land was purchased and a church built in Clifford Grove, Tecoma in the 1960s. Over the next 20 years, the hall and manse were built and ministry continued to grow.
In the 2000s, we again changed our name to be "Hope in the Hills Christian Church." The church continued to be a Christian influence in the local area through school ministries, playgroups and food relief. During all this time the church was a member of the Christian Reformed Churches of Australia, until 2026 where we have now become affiliated with Churches of Christ Victoria/Tasmania.

We celebrated our 70th Anniversary in 2025.
We continue to have had a heart for the community in which God has placed us, and we still sense a strong call to be His people of Hope in the Hills into the future.
